Today was a first of many experiences for me driving through the desert on our way to Masada National Park. First camel, first ibex and first time in a desert. We thankfully arrived early and took the cable car to the top of the park as it was a very hot day into the lower 90’s. This fortress was constructed by King Herod and was the last stronghold of the Jewish Freedom Fighters Ian’s was taken over by the Roman Empire. Much of it was preserved including some of the original frescoes.
Following a brief picnic at Masada we took a short drive to the Dead Sea . Yes it was as beautiful as everyone says and a cool and refreshing end of our day-almost. We headed back to Jerusalem and had dinner at the Notre Dame hotel at their rooftop restaurant where we joined friends of Orly who gave us an overview of the city. A big THANKS to Orly for being our personal driver and guide today and for the next several days as we make our way across this beautiful country.
