We had to wait a bit this morning for the Ashburnham lock (#20) as several boats were waiting to enter the lock. Finally entered ~10 am and took about 30 minutes to be "lifted". We are traveling today with three other boaters, Wayne from "Santuary", a 42' nordic tug-"Puffin", and "Journey".
The Peterborough lift lock was a bit different than all of the locks thus far, and one I was a bit apprehensive about. No need to fear this lock. Although mighty in size it was much easier to travel through this lock. The lock masters were at the ready to take our lines which we tied to the boat for the long ride up. No need to hang onto the cables and lines!
The parks at the locks continue to improve, all having rest rooms and picnic areas, some having showers and electricity. We stopped today around 3 p.m.-7 locks in all. The weather was beautiful again today sunny and hot (78) with light showers by the time we stopped at the upper wall of Lakefield Lock (#26). We are now over half way throught the rent Severn Waterway! Looking forward to entering Georgian Bay in about 7-10 days, weather dependent.
Took a video today of Wayne assisting the lock masters in opening the lock doors. It's quite curious that these locks, built in the 1890's still use the same manual cranks to open and close the lock doors.
