Since the locks open at 9 AM, we had a relatively late start today. Another bright sunny, clear day starting out at 70° with highs in the low 80s. Although the wind was kicking up as we crossed Lake Simcoe, it paled in comparison to the 4 o’clock “hurricane” we are used to in Buzzard’s Bay. We arrived in Orillia ~2:30 today. A relatively short day for us. Only four locks today, all right in a row, with a mere 10-15 minutes between locks. Took some time today to get the oil changed in the boat and settle in. We decided we will remain here for a few days before heading to Georgian Bay. Although we had planned to visit with the neighbors tonight, an intense storm came in quickly bringing torrential downpours, lightning, thunder and high winds. Glad we didn’t choose this night to anchor out! We spent the next few days enjoying the area, planning for boat repairs. Our plans are ever changing as we heard the news that the “Big Chute” was broken down again and boats were stacking up to go through the lock. Thankfully it was repaired and up and running again by the end of the day.
The big surprise when entering Lake Simcoe was the color of the water. Check out the pictures here. Looks like the Caribbean, and almost as warm.
