Traveling to Morehead we stayed at several Harvest Host locations along the way as we really didn't have any specific destinations in mind. Our first stop was at Sierra Blanca Brewery , Moriarty, NM. The wind was howling and the lot, although spacious, was dry and dusty. I stepped out of the trailer once or twice and decided that staying inside was a better option. We left early the next morning and headed to our next Harvest Host, Rte 66 meat process plant in Sayre, OK. Thankfully the wind had died down and we enjoyed temps in the 70's and a light breeze. Since this is cattle country we stopped in the store and made a purchase of some steak and "spun" honey. As we were continuing on and staying close to the famous route 66 we decided to stop for lunch at Pops 66 on the way to the Hiway Diner just outside of Vinita, Oklahoma. High wind warnings with gusts up to 50+ and tornadoes last week made us think twice, so we hunkered down for an extra day at the Diner. Beth greeted us and gave us a history of the diner and pointed out her the giant Indian she purchased from Charlemont, MA that was once along the Mohawk trail, erected in 2023. The latest was the big chef, just put up yesterday, pictured below. Follow this link for a brief video of all the Giants she has collected. Our last stop before arriving in Morehead was White Barn Antiques where we picked up a few special gifts for our hosts.
