Days 60 & 61 On the road again Alamogordo and Lordsburg
Since visiting White Sands National Park appeared to be a one day stop we left early in the morning so we would have time to visit the park and stayed at a Harvest Host spot-basically the parking lot of an area golf course. The plus was that they had a great restaurant so a day off from cooking!
White Sands is small compared to the national parks we have visited. It is quite odd as well with everything surrounding it being barren desert. All of a sudden you turn the corner and there are huge pure white sand dunes as far as you can see. We spent the day here sledding down the dunes and taking a short hike around the dunes.

As we always try to check out what is popular in the area we found McGinn's PistachioLand, home of the world's largest pistachio! We spent some time browsing the store and had the best pistachio icecream ever. Yes, pistachio is my favorite icecream, not so much Dan's.

Lordsburg was simply a stop over at a harvest host to shorten the ride. We stayed at Goldhill Outpost which was a gift shop that had a wide variety of souvenirs all made in New Mexico.
